Abstract
Ten years after its implementation, the National
Public Policy on Gender Equity for Women is
evaluated in practice with a social study from
Communication. To do this, a characterization
of the female gender in the city of Santa Marta
is made based on the representation it has in the
news content of the local press. The results are
compared with the guidelines of the Public Policy,
determining the ways in which it is reflected
in the roles of women. This is done in light of
the paradigm that news content reflects reality
and helps promote or reaffirm reality in the collective
imagination. The work invites us to reflect
on how the legal aspects that the breach of
this Policy entails build a single role of female
empowerment.
